Panasonic Green Impact (PGI)

Recent climate research underscores the urgent need to limit global warming, calling on businesses to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In response, Panasonic launched its Green Impact strategy in 2022, targeting zero emissions for Scope 1 & 2 by 2030 and Scope 3 by 2050. As a Panasonic subsidiary, PIDEU aligns with these goals:

  • Net zero Scope 1 & 2 emissions from 2025 onward (direct operations and purchased electricity)
  • Net zero Scope 3 emissions by 2050 (entire value chain, including purchased goods and travel)
  • Strategy includes: Reducing in-house emissions and supporting global decarbonization via current and new technologies

The overall focus is on operational reduction and innovation to help reach a sustainable future.

We are acting now

Since 2022, PIDEU has been actively working toward Scope 1 & 2 decarbonization by:

  • Producing renewable energy onsite
  • Sourcing clean electricity and Guarantees of Origin (GoOs) for gas
  • Offsetting remaining emissions (from 2025 onwards)

As a result, all sites aim to reduce CO₂ emissions by 85% from 2025 onward. Because many business processes occur in company buildings, property maintenance and operations are major contributors to energy use and emissions. To address this, the company focused in 2024 on:

  • Infrastructure upgrades to optimize energy use
  • Installing renewables and energy-efficient systems (e.g., LED lighting, automated blinds, efficient equipment, heat pumps)

Key examples:

  • Lüneburg R&D site: Installed six 24.9 kW heat pumps, reducing gas consumption by 90% and saving ~175 tons of CO₂ annually. The remaining 10% will be addressed by purchasing climate neutral (compensated) gas from 2026.
  • Trstená manufacturing site: Installed solar panels, now covering 2% of its electricity needs.
  • Planá manufacturing site: installed solar panels since 2008 covering ~ 10% of the plant’s electricity needs.

The overall goal is to make facilities more energy-efficient as part of the company’s climate strategy.
